Hi, my name is Reina.
Throughout my life, I have been fortunate and privileged to travel around the world. I was born in Tokyo, Japan but have lived in Australia for around 14 years. I have moved back and forth between the two countries a few times. I think changing where I live often during my childhood has allowed me to become more open minded to new things and accepting of different cultures.

I believe that challenging yourself and getting out of your comfort zone is a large part of self-growth. To me, the feeling of travelling is an experience that can’t be bought. To be in a foreign place and finding your way around is liberating and freeing. Travelling is “Simply the luxury of leaving all my beliefs and certainties at home” (Pico, 2000). It can be a way of escape from the 9-5 daily grind of busy schedules.
From these blogs, I aim to grow my knowledge on Vanuatu to have a better understanding of the culture and outdoor environment for when I visit, but I also aim to inspire others to travel to Vanuatu, through creating this blog, and sharing my knowledge about this beautiful country.

Vanuatu is located in the South Pacific Ocean, a beautiful island country and is a 7 hour flight from Melbourne. It is a tropical island and the temperature is quite warm throughout the year, with often hot rainy weather. The official languages include Bislama, English and French.
There are 83 islands to hop around and explore the beaches and snorkel. In 2015, Vanuatu was at most ‘at-risk’ for natural diseases which includes cyclones, earthquakes, floods etc. Although Vanuatu has faced many issues throughout the years, they have strong people-to-people links and is said to be the happiest places on earth.
Since 2016, it has increased in the number of tourists each year, attracting scuba drivers, outdoor adventurous and families. Tourism has become a large part of the country’s economy.
The blogs will be focusing on the outdoor environment and ways for people to explore the islands. Vanuatu is filled with beautiful nature, beaches, blue lagoons, caves and many more adventurous things to explore.
